The ISCAR 6002859 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert designed for high-performance parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the GFN5B insert style with an IC328 PVD-coated carbide grade, this insert delivers a 5.08 mm (0.200 inch) cutting width with a neutral lead angle and a 0-degree lead angle geometry. The IC328 grade is engineered for superalloy machining, making it well suited for aerospace, energy, and precision manufacturing applications. A relief angle of 7 degrees and a 0.40 mm corner radius contribute to controlled cutting action and extended tool life. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert using a clamp-style holding method within the Self-Grip toolholder system.
This insert is intended for grooving and parting operations on superalloys and other demanding workpiece materials including steel and stainless steel, reflected by its M, P, and S ISO material group ratings. It fits within ISCAR Self-Grip toolholder systems that accept a size 5 insert seat. Typical applications include external grooving, cutoff operations, and face grooving on medium to small-diameter workpieces in production and job-shop turning environments. The single-end geometry maximizes rigidity in narrow-groove applications where chatter control is critical.
Designed for use with ISCAR Self-Grip toolholders accepting a size 5 insert seat. Compatible with workpiece materials in ISO categories M (stainless steel), P (steel), and S (superalloys) per ISO 13399. Material grades C2, C3, C5, and C6 are applicable.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the Self-Grip clamp pocket and confirm the clamping screw torque is within the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the insert manufacturer recommended feed and speed parameters for the IC328 grade when machining superalloys.
