The ISCAR 6000390 is a solid carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It belongs to the Self-Grip series and carries the GFR insert style with a manufacturer grade of IC54. The cutting width measures 1.6 mm (0.0630 inches), with an 8-degree right-hand lead angle and a 7-degree relief angle. A corner radius of 0.16 mm (0.0063 inches) defines the cutting geometry. The insert is uncoated (bright finish) and rated at material grade C5, making it suited to machining steel and cast iron in moderate-speed applications. Machinists and toolroom professionals are the primary users.
This insert is intended for cut-off and parting applications on single-turret and gang-tool lathes in production and job-shop environments. The right-hand lead angle and single-end design suit standard front-toolpost parting setups. It is clamped in place using the Self-Grip clamping method, which provides secure tool holding during the interrupted-cut conditions common in parting operations. The GFR style and 1.6 mm width are typically chosen when narrow kerfs and minimal material loss are priorities on bar-feed and chucking work.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Seat the insert fully into the Self-Grip holder pocket before engaging the clamping mechanism to ensure proper contact along the insert seating surfaces. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended depth-of-cut or feed rate for this insert width. Inspect the insert edge for chipping before each use and replace at the first sign of wear to prevent workpiece damage or toolholder failure.
