The ISCAR 6000259 is a solid carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries manufacturer grade IC20 and features a 2.2 mm (0.0866 inch) cutting width with a neutral lead angle and a 7-degree relief angle. The insert seats into Self-Grip style toolholders using a clamp-type holding method, providing rigid clamping without the need for top clamps. Machinists and toolroom professionals install this insert for high-repeatability cutoff work across a broad range of workpiece materials. The uncoated IC20 substrate delivers consistent edge integrity on universal application stock.
The 6000259 is suited for cut-off and grooving applications in production turning environments, both light industrial and heavy production shops. Its universal primary workpiece material designation covers steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, N, and S. The neutral insert hand and neutral lead angle make it a direct-fit choice for standard radial cutoff operations where no axial rake offset is required. Single-end geometry means the insert is indexed once and replaced rather than flipped.
Designed for use with Self-Grip series GFN 2 style toolholders that accept clamp-type insert retention. Specific toolholder compatibility should be confirmed against the ISCAR Self-Grip toolholder catalog using insert style GFN and size code 2.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine in a full stop condition and all spindle motion arrested before accessing the toolholder. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to release and reseat the clamp — do not exceed the clamp fastener torque value stated in the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination at the seating surface will affect positional accuracy and edge life. Disposal of worn carbide inserts should follow applicable local regulations for carbide and metal waste.
