The ISCAR 6000029 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a GFF-4N style profile with a 0.1575 inch cutting width and a CVD-applied TiC coating that promotes wear resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. The neutral hand orientation makes it straightforward to apply in standard right-hand turret toolholders. With a positive 7-degree rake angle and a 0.0098 inch corner radius, the insert geometry supports controlled chip flow and clean shoulder definition. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a consumable cutting element in compatible Self-Grip toolholders.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting applications on stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces in both production and job-shop turning environments. The IC656 grade, classified at material grades C5 and C6, is selected for its balance of toughness and heat resistance when cutting ferrous materials at moderate to high surface speeds. Typical applications include external groove cutting, snap-ring groove preparation, and part-off operations on bar stock and chucked workpieces. The Self-Grip holding method provides secure clamping without a top clamp, keeping the cutting zone unobstructed for tight groove geometries.
Designed for use in ISCAR Self-Grip series toolholders accepting size 4 grooving inserts. Compatible primary workpiece materials are stainless steel and steel, corresponding to ISO material codes M and P.
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Self-Grip holders use a lever or wedge clamping mechanism — do not force the insert with a hammer or pry tool, as this can damage the seat or insert. Inspect the holder pocket and contact surfaces for chips or wear before seating a new insert.
