The ISCAR 5994680 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UNJ thread-form cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide in the IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability when threading alloy steels, stainless, titanium, and other demanding workpiece materials. The 16ER insert style and 9.52 mm inscribed circle conform to ISO 13399 standards, making tool-data integration straightforward. At 8 threads per inch, this insert is suited for aerospace and high-strength fastener applications where the UNJ thread form with its controlled root radius is a specification requirement.
This insert is used in right-hand external threading operations on CNC turning equipment. The UNJ thread standard is common in aerospace structural and engine applications, where the larger root radius of the UNJ form reduces stress concentration compared to standard UN threads. The IC908 carbide grade with TiAlN finish is appropriate for interrupted cuts and difficult materials including titanium alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and hardened steels. The ISCARTHREAD series toolholders are the intended platform for this insert style.
Designed for use in ISCARTHREAD series toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style. Confirm holder pocket specifications before ordering. Minimum order quantity is 5 pieces; package quantity is 1.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a stopped, locked-out state. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert seating surface and pocket for chips or debris before each installation. Follow your facility's tool-change lockout-tagout procedures before handling inserts near the spindle area.
