The ISCAR 5992237 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external ISO thread forms with a 1.50 mm pitch. Manufactured in the IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert handles a broad range of workpiece materials across the universal application spectrum. The insert follows the 16ERM style in a right-hand orientation and carries an inscribed circle diameter of 3/8 inches (9.53 mm) with a thickness of 0.143 inches. It is part of the ISCARTHREAD series and conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and tool-and-die professionals install this insert on compatible threading toolholders for precision external thread cutting operations.
This insert is suited for external threading on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. The IC908 grade with TiAlN PVD finish performs across multiple material groups, including ISO workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The right-hand, M-chipbreaker geometry is a common configuration in high-volume threading applications where chip control and surface finish consistency are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading insert for toolholders accepting the 16ERM laydown insert style. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against ISCAR ISCARTHREAD series holder documentation prior to installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten by hand or with non-specified tools. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or damage before seating a new insert to ensure proper clamping force and runout.
