The ISCAR 5902805 is a laydown-style solid carbide threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 20 threads per inch. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the IC908 manufacturer grade, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. The 3/8 inch (0.375 inch decimal) inscribed circle and 0.143 inch thickness conform to the 16ER insert style standard. The right-hand orientation and B chipbreaker geometry make it suited for standard external threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers in metalworking shops are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is built for external right-hand UN threading applications where consistent thread form and tool life are priorities. Its IC908 grade with PVD TiAlN coating supports machining across universal workpiece material categories, including steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous, and high-temperature alloys, as reflected in the primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It fits standard 16ER toolholders used on turning centers in both job shop and production environments.
Designed for use in standard 16ER laydown threading toolholders configured for external right-hand UN threading at 20 TPI. Compatible with workpiece material groups coded H, K, M, N, P, and S per the supplier specification. Part of the ISCARTHREAD series.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked. Use the correct torx or clamping screw specified for the toolholder to secure the insert without over-torquing the seating pocket. Verify insert orientation and hand designation match the toolholder before initiating a threading cycle. Handling carbide inserts with bare hands is not recommended, as skin oils can affect coating adhesion over repeated thermal cycles.
