The ISCAR 5902574 is a laydown-style threading insert designed for cutting internal Acme threads on metalworking lathes and CNC turning centers. It runs at 16 threads per inch (TPI) with a right-hand cutting direction and is ground from solid carbide with an IC250 grade substrate. The IC250 grade carries a PVD-applied TiCN/TiN coating stack that provides wear resistance and edge toughness on demanding workpiece materials. With a 3/8-inch (0.375 inches) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.143 inches, this insert seats in standard 16IR-style toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators performing threading operations on production or job-shop lathes are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for internal Acme thread applications in residential and commercial machine shop environments. Acme thread forms are common in lead screws, jack screws, power transmission components, and valve stems. The 5902574 is rated for use on cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces, covering the three most common categories encountered in general metalworking and OEM part manufacturing. It is cataloged under the ISCARTHREAD series and conforms to ISO 13399 cutting tool data standards, making it compatible with tool management software that reads ISO 13399 data.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 16IR-style laydown threading insert seats used in internal Acme thread turning operations. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle laydown insert geometry.
Threading inserts are installed and changed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing any insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert clamp screw — do not overtighten. Confirm the insert is fully seated in the pocket and that the cutting edge orientation matches the programmed thread direction before resuming cutting operations.
