The ISCAR 5902384 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 24 threads per inch (TPI). Built from solid carbide with a TiAlN PVD coating and ISCAR IC908 manufacturer grade, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability during threading operations on a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch decimal) inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.143 inches, and a right-hand cutting orientation. It is part of the ISCARTHREAD series and carries an M chipbreaker designation. Machinists and CNC operators performing external threading on lathes and turning centers install this insert as a direct-fit replacement in compatible ISCAR toolholders.
This insert is suited for external UN thread applications in both production and job-shop turning environments. The IC908 grade with PVD coating performs across a universal range of workpiece materials including steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, reflected in its material grade designations C1, C2, C6, and C7 and workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Typical applications include threading on CNC lathes producing standard UN fastener threads at 24 TPI in medium to high production runs.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement laydown threading insert for use in ISCARTHREAD series external threading toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle.
This insert is installed and replaced by a machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Disengage the machine spindle and confirm the turret is fully stopped before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamping key specified for the toolholder to secure the insert to the correct seating torque per the toolholder manufacturer documentation. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper insert contact and thread profile accuracy.
