The ISCAR 5902306 is a laydown-style threading insert designed for external Stub Acme thread turning on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide in the IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiN/TiAlN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. It cuts a right-hand external Stub Acme thread profile at 6 threads per inch (TPI), with a 9.53 mm (3/8 inch) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.143 inches. The 16ER insert style is indexed into compatible ISCARTHREAD toolholders and is suited for production turning where consistent thread form and tool life are priorities.
This insert is used in external threading operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces, as well as heat-resistant alloys. The Stub Acme thread form is common in power transmission components, linear actuators, lead screws, and mechanical assemblies that require a shallower thread depth than a full Acme profile. The IC908 carbide grade with PVD coating is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, making it appropriate for steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys in both roughing and finishing threading passes.
Designed for use with ISCARTHREAD series external threading toolholders that accept the 16ER insert style. Suitable for universal workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, steel, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or clamping key specified for the toolholder to secure the insert without over-torquing the clamping screw. Confirm thread pitch and hand orientation match the programmed toolpath before initiating a threading cycle.
