The ISCAR 5902301 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting external Stub Acme threads in a wide range of workpiece materials. Designated style 16ER, this right-hand insert operates at 12 threads per inch (TPI) and features an IC908 carbide grade with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. The TiAlN finish delivers heat and wear resistance suited to demanding threading operations on steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.143 inches, it fits standard 16-series laydown threading toolholders. Licensed tradespeople and precision machinists working in industrial and maintenance machining environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for external Stub Acme thread profiling on lathes and turning centers where a laydown insert orientation is required. Stub Acme threads are commonly found in power transmission components, lead screws, and linear motion mechanisms in both industrial and commercial machinery applications. The IC908 grade and PVD TiAlN coating make it a versatile choice across a broad spectrum of workpiece materials, including carbon steels, hardened steels, stainless steels, cast irons, aluminum, non-ferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys, covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO designation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production insert for standard 16-series laydown external threading toolholders accepting inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Compatible across workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by qualified machinists following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the cutting parameters recommended for the IC908 grade and the specific workpiece material being threaded.
