The ISCAR 5902244 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UNJ thread turning on CNC lathes and threading operations requiring tight tolerance thread forms. Manufactured from solid carbide in ISCAR grade IC908, it features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert cuts at 32 threads per inch (TPI) in a right-hand orientation, with a 3/8-inch (0.375 inch) inscribed circle and a 0.143-inch thickness. IC908 is ISCAR's hard, wear-resistant PVD grade suited for both continuous and interrupted threading cuts at elevated cutting speeds.
This insert is intended for external UNJ thread profiles, a controlled-radius root thread form commonly specified in aerospace and high-strength fastener applications. It fits the 16ER insert style seat geometry used on standard laydown threading toolholders. The primary workpiece material classification covers steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, N, S, and H. It is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of 5 per ISCAR minimum order policy.
Designed for use in 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with toolholders and systems conforming to the 16ER seat geometry per ISO 13399 insert identification standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamping force without over-torquing. Verify thread direction, insert orientation, and TPI setting against the part drawing before initiating a threading pass.
