The ISCAR 5902157 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal UNJ thread cutting at 18 threads per inch. Manufactured to the 11IR insert style, it carries ISCAR's IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, a combination suited for demanding threading operations across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 1/4 inch (0.250 inch decimal) inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.126 inches, and a 0.07 mm corner radius. Right-hand cutting geometry makes it a standard fit for conventional internal threading passes. Machinists and toolroom technicians running CNC lathes or manual threading setups install this insert into compatible ISCAR ISCARTHREAD toolholders.
This insert is intended for internal UNJ threading applications, a thread form commonly specified in aerospace and high-reliability fastener standards. It is suited for use on machining centers and CNC turning equipment where controlled thread form and surface finish are required. The IC908 grade with PVD coating performs across universal workpiece material categories, covering steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous, and high-temperature alloy classifications as indicated by material grade codes C1, C2, C6, and C7 and workpiece codes H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Designed for use with ISCAR ISCARTHREAD series toolholders accepting the 11IR insert style. Compatible with workpiece material grades C1, C2, C6, and C7 covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S per supplier specification.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or clamp key to seat the insert securely in the toolholder pocket — do not overtighten by hand or with non-specified tools. Verify thread form with a UNJ thread gauge after first pass before committing to full production threading. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements when changing inserts on live equipment.
