The ISCAR 5902117 is a laydown threading insert designed for cutting external American Buttress threads at 16 threads per inch (TPI). It is manufactured from solid carbide with an IC908 grade designation and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, providing wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a right-hand cutting orientation and a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle. It carries a corner radius of 0.0035 inches (0.09 mm). This insert is installed by machinists and tooling technicians on CNC lathes and threading operations in metalworking environments.
This insert is suited for external threading operations on a variety of metallic workpiece materials, including carbon steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys, as indicated by the universal primary workpiece material classification. It is part of the ISCARTHREAD series and is intended for precision threading applications where consistent thread form and insert-to-insert repeatability are required. Typical use cases include production threading on CNC turning centers in job shop, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments.
Designed for use in laydown-style external threading toolholders accepting a 16-size insert with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians on CNC lathes or turning centers. Power down the machine and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the toolholder pocket and secure with the appropriate clamping screw torqued to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert seating surface for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper contact and thread accuracy.
