The ISCAR 5902030 is a laydown-style threading insert designed for cutting internal NPT threads in a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide with an IC908 manufacturer grade, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiN/TiAlN coating for extended wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. It produces right-hand internal NPT threads at 14 threads per inch (TPI) and features a 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) inscribed circle with a 0.0030-inch corner radius. The IC908 substrate and PVD coating make it suitable across universal material groups including steels, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous, and high-temp alloys. Installed by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC lathes and threading centers.
This insert is used for internal NPT pipe thread production in precision machining environments — typically on CNC turning centers, engine lathes, or dedicated threading machines. It fits applications in manufacturing, maintenance machining, and job shop work where reliable NPT thread form accuracy is required. The insert style code 11IR and series ISCARTHREAD designate its holder compatibility within the ISCAR threading tooling system. Primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S confirm suitability across a broad spectrum of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Designed for use with ISCAR ISCARTHREAD series internal threading toolholders accepting the 11IR insert style with an 11-size code designation. Confirm holder bore and clamping geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard CNC lathe or threading center toolchange procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamping screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating and thread form with a calibrated NPT thread gauge after the first pass.
