The ISCAR 5902007 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 40 threads per inch. Coated with TiCN/TiN via a PVD process under the IC508 grade, this insert is built for consistent thread form and wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a right-hand cutting orientation and a 3/8-inch (0.375 inch) inscribed circle with a 0.1430-inch thickness. The IC508 PVD coating provides a hard, low-friction surface suited for threading operations on steel, stainless, non-ferrous, and high-temp alloys. Installed by machinists and CNC operators in turning centers and engine lathes.
This insert is suited for external threading applications on workpieces classified under universal material groups, covering a broad spectrum of metals including carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys. It is compatible with standard laydown threading toolholders using the 16ER insert style designation. Typical applications include production threading on CNC turning centers and manual lathes where consistent 40 TPI UN thread profiles are required. The IC508 grade with PVD coating is particularly effective when threading difficult-to-machine materials where edge retention and coating adhesion are critical.
Designed for use with 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders configured for external UN thread cutting. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping style against the 16ER insert designation before installation.
Threading inserts of this type are installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamping screw, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under uneven clamping force. Confirm insert seating and orientation in the pocket before resuming cutting operations.
