The ISCAR 5901994 is a laydown-style external threading insert designed for cutting Unified National (UN) thread forms at 8 threads per inch (TPI). Built from solid submicron carbide with a TiN/TiAlN PVD coating under the IC908 manufacturer grade, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted threading operations. It features a 3/8 inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.143 inches, and a 0.016 inch corner radius. Right-hand orientation makes it suited for standard external threading passes on a CNC lathe or manual turning center. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers select this insert for production threading on a broad range of workpiece materials.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering material grade codes H, K, M, N, P, and S — spanning steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. It belongs to the ISCARTHREAD series and conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation. Typical applications include external UN thread generation on turned components in general machining, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing environments. The B chipbreaker geometry supports reliable chip control across this wide material range.
Designed for use in ISCARTHREAD series external threading toolholders that accept the 16ER laydown insert style. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and clamping method before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret or toolpost is in a safe index position before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torx or clamping screw driver to achieve proper seating without overtorquing the clamp screw — follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specification. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for damage or debris before placing a new insert, as contamination in the seat will affect thread form accuracy.
