The ISCAR 5901953 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external ISO thread forms at a 1.75mm pitch. Manufactured in the IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, it delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 16ER insert style accommodates right-hand cutting geometry and seats in compatible 16-series laydown threading toolholders. With a 3/8 inch (0.375 inches) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.143 inches, this insert is built to close tolerances for consistent thread quality in production and repair machining environments. It is installed and changed by machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC lathes and manual turning centers.
This insert is suited for external ISO metric threading operations at 1.75mm pitch in both production and job-shop settings. The IC908 grade with PVD coating is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Typical applications include threading steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, aluminum alloys, and superalloys. The right-hand orientation makes it appropriate for standard thread-turning passes on conventional and CNC lathes. It is part of the ISCARTHREAD series and conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading insert for 16-series laydown external threading toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style with ISO 13399-compliant geometry.
Insert changes should be performed with the machine fully stopped and spindle locked. Use the correct torque wrench and insert-clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to avoid insert rocking or breakage. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Always verify thread pitch and insert hand against the job setup before resuming cutting.
