The ISCAR 5901938 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal NPT thread cutting at 8 threads per inch. Built from solid carbide with an IC908 grade designation and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 3/8 inch inscribed circle (0.375 inches) and 0.143 inch thickness conform to the 16IR insert style geometry. It is suited for CNC lathes and turning centers where consistent thread form and insert-to-insert repeatability are required. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers in production and job-shop environments are the primary users.
This insert is used for cutting internal NPT tapered pipe threads on lathes and turning centers. The NPT thread standard is common in plumbing, hydraulic, and pneumatic fitting production where pressure-tight tapered thread connections are required. The IC908 grade and TiAlN coating make it suitable for threading across multiple material groups, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys, as reflected by the broad primary workpiece material codes. Package quantity is 1 insert per unit, with a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use with toolholders accepting the 16IR insert style within the ISCARTHREAD series. Verify toolholder insert pocket geometry, clamping style, and seat size before installation. No additional compatible model numbers were specified in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool turret is de-energized before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamping screw driver to secure the insert to the specified clamp torque listed in the toolholder documentation - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle. Confirm insert seating and orientation before running the threading cycle.
