The ISCAR 5901584 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal NPT threads at 11.5 threads per inch (TPI). Manufactured in the 16IR insert style with an IC908 grade substrate, it features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that supports demanding cutting conditions across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert has a 3/8-inch (0.375 inches) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.143 inches. It carries a right-hand cutting orientation and an M chipbreaker geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators working in pipe-thread applications will find this insert suited to precision internal threading work where consistent thread form and tool life are priorities.
This insert is intended for internal NPT (National Pipe Taper) threading operations on CNC lathes and manual threading setups. The IC908 grade with PVD coating is rated for use across universal workpiece materials, including material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. It is part of the ISCARTHREAD series and conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards. Typical applications include threading pipe fittings, hydraulic components, and fluid-system parts requiring NPT-standard internal threads.
Designed as a replacement-style insert for 16IR internal threading toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle laydown insert. Compatible with workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S as defined by the input specifications. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping style before installation.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists or qualified CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamping screw driver to the toolholder manufacturer's recommended procedure - do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Confirm insert orientation and thread hand before commencing the threading pass.
