The ISCAR 5901519 is a laydown-style solid carbide threading insert engineered for external partial profile 60-degree thread forms. It carries the IC908 manufacturer grade, a PVD-applied TiAlN coating known for heat resistance and extended tool life in interrupted and continuous threading operations. The insert is right-hand orientation with an M chipbreaker geometry, a 3/8-inch (0.375-inch decimal) inscribed circle, and a thickness of 0.143 inches. It is sized for the 16ER insert style and covers a pitch range of 0.50 to 3.00 mm, corresponding to a TPI range of 48-8. CNC machinists and tool-room operators install this insert in compatible laydown threading toolholders for precision thread-turning on lathes.
This insert is suited for external threading applications across a broad range of workpiece materials, classified under universal primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. These codes cover hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous materials, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys. It is well matched to high-production environments where consistent thread form accuracy and coating durability are required. The IC908 grade with PVD TiAlN coating performs under moderate to high cutting speeds and maintains edge integrity in finishing and semi-finishing threading passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use insert for toolholders accepting the 16ER laydown threading insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle seat.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value using the correct Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure. Replace the insert at the first sign of chipping, built-up edge, or surface finish degradation on the threaded workpiece.
