The ISCAR 5794623 is an uncoated ceramic turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for precision finishing operations on cast iron and hardened materials. It features a CNGA insert style with an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64 inch corner radius. The IN22 ceramic grade delivers high wear resistance across ISO material groups K and H, making it well suited for demanding finishing cuts where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical. With a negative side clearance and a clamp-and-pin holding method, this insert seats securely in compatible CNGA toolholders.
This insert is intended for finishing passes at shallow depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0197 inches (0.50 mm). Typical applications include turning hardened ferrous components and gray or ductile cast iron parts in production environments. The uncoated ceramic construction performs best at elevated cutting speeds where a coated carbide insert would struggle. It is used by machinists and tooling specialists in CNC turning centers and rigid manual lathes handling high-wear workpieces.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for CNGA-style toolholders accepting a 433 ANSI size code insert (ISO size code 120412). Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping configuration before installation.
Ceramic turning inserts should be installed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and seating procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before exchanging inserts. Ceramic grades are brittle compared to carbide — avoid interrupted cuts, heavy feed rates, or conditions that generate mechanical shock unless the grade is specifically rated for such use. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for debris or damage before seating a new insert.
