The ISCAR 5700431 is a ceramic turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured in the TPG321T style with grade IN22 ceramic, this uncoated triangular insert features a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. At 16.5 mm (0.6496 inches) in length and 1/8-inch thickness, it is sized for moderate material removal with controlled chip formation via its T-style chip breaker. The insert is held using a top clamp method and carries a clearance code of P with a tolerance code of G, making it a solid fit for shops requiring repeatable, close-tolerance turning results.
This insert is primarily intended for turning cast iron workpieces, where ceramic grades excel due to their high heat resistance and hardness. It is suited for continuous or lightly interrupted cuts in ferrous machining environments. The Isoturn series positions this insert for use on standard ISCAR Isoturn toolholders accepting TPG-style inserts. Machinists in job shops, production turning cells, and maintenance repair operations will find this insert appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes on cast iron components. Maximum depth of cut is 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches).
Designed for use with ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders that accept TPG-style triangular inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Compatible workpiece material is cast iron (ISO material group H and K). Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Turning insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down, spindle locked, and the toolholder secured in a vise or fixture. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert without cracking the ceramic substrate. Ceramic inserts are brittle and should never be used on heavily interrupted cuts or with excessive coolant thermal shock. Inspect the insert pocket for damage, chips, or debris before seating a new insert.
