The ISCAR 5700399 is a TNGA-style ceramic turning insert designed for precision single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured under the Isoturn series, this triangular insert features an IN23 ceramic grade and an uncoated surface. It carries a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 0.0315 inch corner radius, and a 60-degree included angle. The insert measures 16.5 mm (0.6496 inches) in length and 0.1874 inches in thickness. It is held in place using a clamp and pin method. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert when finishing or semi-finishing hard or abrasive workpiece materials at elevated cutting speeds.
This insert is suited for turning applications on cast iron and hard materials, corresponding to workpiece material codes H and K per ISO 13399. The Isoturn series targets high-speed, high-temperature cutting conditions where ceramic tooling outperforms carbide. Maximum depth of cut is 3.5 mm (0.1378 inches). Typical applications include finish turning of gray cast iron components, hardened steel parts, and similar abrasive workpieces in production machining environments. The TNGA geometry with a zero-degree relief angle (clearance code N, tolerance code G) is well suited to rigid tooling setups where insert seating accuracy is critical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement ceramic turning insert for TNGA-format toolholders in the Isoturn series. Consult toolholder documentation to confirm pocket geometry, clamping method, and insert size code 332 compatibility before installation.
This insert is installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Clamp and pin retention systems require that the pin bore and clamp finger are inspected for wear at each insert change to maintain proper seating and prevent insert movement during cutting.
