The ISCAR 5698608 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI/ISO designation R90MT 1205-RM in manufacturer grade IC928. This round, single-sided insert is designed for 90-degree shoulder milling operations and is finished with a TiAlN PVD coating for extended wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. With 8 cutting edges, a 0.4724-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.1970-inch thickness, it delivers repeatable performance in demanding metal removal applications. The insert mounts via screw clamping and features a positive 20-degree rake angle with a T-Land cutting edge style and RM chip breaker geometry. It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians on milling machines and machining centers.
This insert is engineered primarily for steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and S. It belongs to the CHAMMILL series and is suited for both roughing and finishing passes where consistent chip control and edge stability are required. The positive rake geometry and PVD TiAlN coating make it well matched to high-speed, high-feed milling of difficult-to-machine alloys in aerospace, energy, and general metalworking environments. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible application across a range of cutter configurations.
Compatible with ISCAR cutter series FDN, ECM, ER-M, and ERCM. Designed for use in 90-degree shoulder milling toolholders that accept the R90MT 1205-RM insert size. Verify cutter pocket geometry and screw torque specification in the toolholder documentation before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Clean the insert pocket and seating surface of chips or debris before placing the new insert, as contamination can affect seating accuracy and cause premature edge failure. Use the correct torque wrench and follow the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping screw torque; do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert body.
