The ISCAR 5683371 is a solid carbide milling insert in the XQUAD series, designated by ANSI and ISO code SDHW 100408-TN with manufacturer grade IC882. This single-sided, square-shaped insert measures 10 mm wide and 4.5 mm thick, with a corner radius of 0.80 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 0.3622 inches. It is finished with a multilayer PVD coating combining AlTiN, TiAlSiN, and TiSiN for wear resistance and thermal stability. Four cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation make it a versatile option for high-demand milling operations. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists install this insert in compatible XQUAD-series SDK milling cutters.
This insert is engineered for cutting stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material groups M and S. A positive rake geometry with a T-Land cutting edge style reduces cutting forces and manages chip formation in difficult-to-machine materials. It is well suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and similar operations in aerospace, medical, and energy-sector environments where stainless and superalloy workpieces are common. The TN chip breaker designation suits finishing and semi-finishing passes in these applications. The screw-holding method provides secure clamping in the tool body during aggressive cuts.
Designed for use with the SDK cutter series in the ISCAR XQUAD milling platform. Conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards under code SDHW 100408-TN IC882.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Disengage the machine spindle and follow lockout/tagout procedures before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to drive the clamping screw to the tool body manufacturer's specified torque range as listed in the cutter body documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and edge engagement.
