The ISCAR 5668336 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It carries the ANSI and ISO designation T490 LNMT 1306PNTR in grade IC840, a PVD-coated carbide grade featuring a multilayer AlTiN, TiAlSiN, and TiSiN coating system optimized for elevated cutting temperatures. The insert has a butterfly (LNMT) shape with a negative rake angle and a helical cutting edge style, allowing it to seat securely in T490 LNK13 series milling bodies. With four usable cutting edges, a 13.05 mm thickness, and a maximum depth of cut of 12.50 mm, this insert delivers consistent tool life across interrupted and continuous cuts. It is held by screw clamping and is double-sided.
This insert is engineered for milling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — material application codes M and S per ISO classification. These are among the most thermally and mechanically demanding workpiece materials in precision manufacturing, making the IC840 PVD grade and multilayer coating particularly well suited. Typical installation scenarios include face milling and shoulder milling operations on CNC machining centers where the T490 LNMT cutter body is already in use. The PNTR chip breaker geometry supports stable chip control in the tough, work-hardening materials common in aerospace, medical, and oil and gas component production.
Compatible with T490 LNK13 series milling cutter bodies as stated by the manufacturer. Cutter series compatibility is designated T490 LNK13 per supplier specifications.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and locked out before inserting or indexing cutting inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
