The ISCAR 5606942 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI designation APKT 1003PDR-HM in manufacturer grade IC330. It is a single-sided, parallelogram-shaped insert engineered for use in HELIMILL face and shoulder milling cutters. The IC330 grade features a TiCN plus TiN PVD coating applied over a solid carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. With a positive rake geometry, chamfered and honed cutting edges, and a right-hand orientation, this insert is built for productive metal removal in demanding milling operations performed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium alloys, covering ISO material groups P, M, and S. The size code 1003 fits HELIMILL cutter bodies in the HM90-10 series. It is installed using a screw-clamp holding method and delivers a maximum depth of cut of 0.386 inches (10.05 mm), making it appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes on ferrous and high-temperature alloy workpieces in horizontal and vertical machining center applications.
Designed for use in ISCAR HELIMILL cutter bodies of the HM90-10 series that accept size 1003 APKT-style inserts. Screw-clamp holding method required. Verify cutter pocket geometry and insert seat specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following the cutter manufacturer's torque and seating procedures. Always de-energize and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination under the insert can cause premature breakage or poor surface finish. Follow the cutter body manufacturer's recommendations for insert screw torque and clamping sequence.
