The ISCAR 5606101 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling in demanding metal-removal applications. Manufactured to the ANSI and ISO 13399 standards under the HELIDO series designation S845 SXMU 1606ADTR-MM, this insert features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle and eight usable cutting edges in a double-sided configuration. The PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN Sumotec coating provides thermal resistance and edge durability when cutting steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. A helical cutting edge geometry and MM chip breaker work together to manage chip flow and reduce cutting forces at the tool-workpiece interface.
This insert is intended for use in milling cutters within the S845 F45SX cutter series. It is suited for right-hand, negative-rake milling operations on ferrous materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, and difficult-to-machine superalloys and titanium alloys. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and pocket milling on CNC machining centers in production shop environments. The screw-held insert seating method provides consistent positioning and repeatable edge indexing. This is a sold-individually insert with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.

Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a locked-out, de-energized state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key per the cutter body manufacturer specification when tightening the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the cutter pocket seating surface and clamping screw threads for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Always verify runout after indexing before returning the tool to full cutting depth.
