The ISCAR 5605870 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI designation H490 ANKX 170616PNTR IC928, designed for use in high-productivity face and helical milling operations. The insert is double-sided with four cutting edges and features a parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle and a negative rake geometry. It is coated with TiAlN via a PVD process using the IC928 manufacturer grade, which is engineered for thermal resistance and wear performance in demanding cutting conditions. The insert measures 0.6654 inches in length, 0.4330 inches in width, and 0.4130 inches in thickness, with a corner radius of 0.0630 inches. A right-hand cutting orientation and helical cutting edge style define its operational profile.
This insert is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — material application codes P, M, and S. It is suited for use on CNC machining centers in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. The maximum depth of cut is 0.6300 inches, and the effective cutting edge length is 0.6300 inches. The PNTR chip breaker geometry supports chip control across these demanding workpiece materials. The insert is held in the cutter body by screw clamping and is compatible with the H490 ANK17 cutter series. It conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.

Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using the designated crew clamping method. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified insert screw to avoid seat distortion or insert cracking. Inspect the pocket seat for debris or wear before installing a new insert.
