The ISCAR 5605221 is a solid carbide ball nose milling insert in the DROPMILL series, designed for high-performance milling in demanding CNC machining applications. Manufactured under ISCAR grade IC908 with a TiAlN PVD coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 0.98 inches in inscribed circle diameter and 0.35 inches in thickness, with a 1-inch corner radius and a maximum depth of cut of 1.76 inches. It is a single-sided, right-hand insert with two cutting edges and a positive rake angle, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes in milling operations.
This insert is intended for use in ISCAR BCM cutter bodies and is compatible with ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. It performs across a wide range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The CS chip breaker geometry and segmented cutting edge style are suited for both roughing and finishing strategies where chip control and edge stability are priorities. Typical applications include mold and die machining, aerospace component work, and general CNC milling where hard or difficult-to-cut materials are encountered.
Designed for use with ISCAR BCM series cutter bodies. The ANSI code for this insert is BCR D2.0-CS IC908 and the ISO code is BCR D2.0-CS. Compatible with workpiece material codes P, M, K, S, and H per ISO material classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw and follow the cutter body manufacturer torque guidelines. Inspect the cutter pocket for damage or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout performance.
