The ISCAR 5605206 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI designation H490 ANKX 170608PNTR IC928, designed for use in HELIDO-series face and shoulder milling operations. This double-sided, parallelogram-shaped insert features a TiAlN PVD coating applied over an IC928 substrate, delivering thermal and wear resistance during high-speed cutting. It provides four usable cutting edges per insert, a helical cutting edge style, and a negative rake geometry. The insert measures 0.6575 inches in length, 0.4410 inches across the inscribed circle, and 0.4090 inches thick, with a corner radius of 0.0315 inches (1/32 inch). A screw-in holding method secures the insert in the cutter body.
This insert is engineered for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and S. The PNTR chip breaker geometry and helical cutting edge contribute to smooth chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces across these demanding workpiece materials. It is suited for both roughing and semi-finishing passes in aerospace, energy, and general metalworking applications. Installation and tool changes are performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians as part of standard insert indexing procedures. The maximum depth of cut is 0.6300 inches.
Designed for use with the H490 ANK17 cutter series. Cutter series compatibility code is H490 ANK17. Verify seat geometry and screw size against the specific cutter body before installation.
Insert changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to the cutter body manufacturer's specified procedure when seating the screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Right-hand cutting direction; confirm cutter body orientation matches before resuming operation.
