The ISCAR 5604696, sold under ANSI designation ONHU 080608-TN-MM IC908, is a double-sided octagonal milling insert engineered for high-performance face and shoulder milling. Manufactured from submicron solid carbide and coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert delivers hardness and thermal resistance across demanding cutting conditions. With 16 usable cutting edges, a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake geometry with a T-Land cutting edge style, it is designed to maximize tool life and cost-per-edge efficiency. A licensed machinist or CNC tooling specialist typically installs this insert in production milling operations.
This insert is rated for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It belongs to the 16MILL series and is compatible with ISCAR cutter series F45NM and F45WG. The MM chip breaker geometry is suited for medium cutting conditions. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.217 inches and an inscribed circle of 0.7953 inches, it fits toolholders designed around the 080608 insert size code. This insert is appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes in high-volume production environments.
Compatible with ISCAR cutter series F45NM and F45WG. Designed for toolholders accepting the 080608 insert size code within the 16MILL series. Conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards for interchangeability reference.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a vise or tool block before handling inserts. Clean the cutter pocket seating surfaces of chips and debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout accuracy. Follow the cutter body manufacturer's torque specification for the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can crack the insert or damage the pocket.
