The ISCAR 5604604 is a round milling insert carrying the ANSI designation RCMT 1607-FW-T20 IC908 from the MILLSHRED series. It is manufactured from submicron solid carbide and coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, delivering hardness and thermal resistance at the cutting edge. The insert measures 0.6299 inches in inscribed circle diameter and 0.1970 inches thick, with a corner radius of 0.3150 inches. Four cutting edges are available per insert, and the neutral hand orientation suits a range of toolholder setups. The FW chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action. Licensed machinists and CNC mill operators install this insert in appropriate toolholders for high-efficiency face and contour milling.
This insert is intended for milling applications across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H). The MILLSHRED series is designed for aggressive material removal with controlled chip flow. The segmented cutting edge style improves chip formation and reduces cutting forces, making this insert well suited for difficult-to-machine alloys and interrupted cuts in both production and job-shop environments. It is held in the toolholder by a screw clamp (top screw mounting). The FRW cutter series is the designated compatible cutter body series for this insert.
Designed for use with the ISCAR FRW cutter series. ANSI code RCMT 1607-FW-T20 IC908; ISO code RCMT 1607-FW-T20. Conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. Verify toolholder pocket specifications against insert dimensions before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified screw for the cutter body to avoid seat damage or insert fracture. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw threads for wear or debris before each insert change.
