The ISCAR 5604413 is a solid carbide ball nose milling insert from the BALLPLUS series, designed for high-performance milling in demanding material applications. It carries the IC908 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating over a submicron carbide substrate, delivering heat and wear resistance during aggressive cuts. The insert measures 3/8 inch inscribed circle (0.3750 inches), 0.09 inches thick, and offers a maximum depth of cut of 0.26 inches with two cutting edges. The right-hand, single-sided design uses a positive rake geometry with a honed cutting edge style and QF chip breaker, suited for controlled chip evacuation in finishing and semi-finishing operations. Installation is via screw-clamp holding in compatible HCM series cutter bodies.
This insert is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It fits applications where a consistent ball nose profile is required for contour milling, die and mold work, or complex surface machining. The IC908 grade with TiAlN coating makes it particularly effective in higher cutting speed ranges where thermal resistance is a priority. Machinists working in job shop, aerospace, or die and mold environments will find this insert applicable across a wide range of workpiece classifications including ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians on CNC or manual milling equipment. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer specification — do not over-torque, as this can crack the insert or damage the pocket seat. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or contamination before installing a new insert.
