The ISCAR 5604301 is a solid carbide milling insert with grade IC908 and a TiAlN PVD coating, designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling in demanding machining environments. Carrying the ANSI and ISO 13399 code OFMW 0706R10-FF, this insert features an octagonal shape with 8 cutting edges, a positive rake angle of 23 degrees, and a honed cutting edge style. At 0.315 inches thick with a corner radius of 0.0394 inches, it delivers controlled chip formation through the FF chip breaker geometry. It belongs to ISCAR's HELIOCTO series and is held in the cutter body by screw clamping. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. It is compatible with ISCAR HOF-07 series cutter bodies. The maximum depth of cut is 0.087 inches (2.20 mm), and the cutting edge effective length is 0.276 inches. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and high-feed operations on CNC machining centers in both production and job-shop environments. The submicron carbide substrate with IC908 grade provides elevated hot hardness and wear resistance under interrupted and continuous cuts across a wide range of workpiece materials.
Designed for use with ISCAR HOF-07 series milling cutter bodies. Insert size code 0706 and ANSI code OFMW 0706R10-FF IC908 should be confirmed against the cutter body specification before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the cutter body is removed or locked out before seating or indexing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw as specified by the cutter body manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before mounting to ensure proper seating and runout.
