The ISCAR 5604227 is a solid carbide milling insert in the LNKX 1106PN-N MM IC328 configuration, designed for tangential milling operations in the TANGMILL series. The insert features a butterfly shape with a 90-degree included angle, four cutting edges, and a neutral hand orientation. It carries an IC328 grade with a TiCN PVD coating, making it well suited for cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The inscribed circle measures 0.236 inches, thickness is 0.433 inches, and the effective cutting edge length is 0.4394 inches. The corner radius is 0.0315 inches (1/32 inch). Installation uses a screw-holding method, and the double-sided design extends usable tool life across multiple setups.
This insert is intended for use in tangential milling cutters across general metalworking applications including production machining of steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), and difficult-to-machine superalloys and titanium (ISO S). The MM chip breaker geometry is optimized for these material groups. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.197 inches (5.00 mm). Typical users include CNC machinists and toolroom operators working on milling machines requiring tangential insert-style tooling with screw retention and negative rake geometry.
Compatible with ISCAR TANGMILL series cutter bodies including FDN, SDN, F90LN, and F86 series milling cutters that accept LNKX 1106 style tangential inserts with screw holding.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom personnel using the screw-retention method standard to TANGMILL cutter bodies. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use a calibrated torque screwdriver appropriate for the cutter body manufacturer specification — do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and runout control.
