The ISCAR 5604221 is a solid carbide ball nose milling insert engineered for demanding material removal in high-performance milling operations. Manufactured in the IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers thermal resistance and edge stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. It carries the ANSI designation BCR D1.00-QT IC908 and conforms to ISO 13399 standards. The insert measures 0.87 inches in length, 0.47 inches in inscribed circle diameter, and 0.17 inches in thickness. With two cutting edges and a right-hand orientation, it is designed for use in CNC milling centers by machinists and tooling specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It belongs to ISCAR's DROPMILL series and features the QT chip breaker geometry with a positive rake angle and T-Land cutting edge style. The 0.50-inch corner radius and maximum depth of cut of 0.87 inches make it well matched to profiling, contouring, and semi-finishing passes where consistent chip control and surface finish are priorities. Compatible cutter series is BCM. The insert is held in place by a screw-type clamping method.
Designed for use with ISCAR BCM series milling cutters. Insert style BCR D1.00-QT is compatible with cutter bodies specified for the DROPMILL series. Screw-on holding method; verify cutter body pocket geometry before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the cutter body specification. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before inserting. Do not mix insert grades or geometries within a single cutter body.
