The ISCAR 5603694 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the manufacturer designation SPMT 100408TR-HQ-M in grade IC928. It is a single-sided, square-shaped insert with a 90-degree included angle and four cutting edges, designed for use in indexable milling cutters across a range of metal-removal applications. The insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which supports cutting performance in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The HQ chip breaker geometry promotes positive-rake cutting action. A licensed machinist or toolroom professional typically selects and indexes these inserts during scheduled tooling maintenance or job changeover.
This insert is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces in both production shop and job-shop environments. The HELIQUAD series designation and T-Land cutting edge style make it appropriate for shoulder milling and face milling applications where controlled chip formation and edge stability are priorities. It is held in the cutter body by a screw-type clamping method. The insert is right-hand orientation and carries material grade classifications C1, C2, C5, and C6, covering a broad range of ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloy applications.
Compatible with ISCAR HELIQUAD cutter body series FSB, SSB, SPK, F90SP, and E90SP. Conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards under ANSI/ISO code SPMT 100408TR-HQ-M.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per established LOTO procedures. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer specification — do not over-torque or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Confirm correct insert orientation (right-hand) and chip breaker direction before resuming cutting operations.
