The ISCAR 5603492 is a solid carbide milling insert in the HM90 APKT 100312PDR IC908 configuration, designed for use in high-performance face and shoulder milling operations. It features a parallelogram insert shape with a positive rake geometry and an 11-degree relief angle, making it well suited for aggressive material removal with reduced cutting forces. The insert is coated with TiAlN via a PVD process using the IC908 submicron carbide grade, which delivers strong wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. With two cutting edges and a right-hand orientation, it provides reliable performance in demanding production environments. Installation requires a compatible screw-clamp toolholder from the HM90-10 cutter series.
This insert is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. The PDR chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation, which is especially important when machining gummy materials like stainless steel or titanium alloys. The maximum depth of cut reaches 0.362 inches (8.00 mm), and the effective cutting edge length is 0.405 inches, giving the insert a productive engagement window for a size-10 insert. It is compatible with HM90-10 series milling cutters and is part of the HELI2000 series platform.
Designed for use in HM90-10 series milling cutter bodies. ANSI code HM90 APKT 100312PDR IC908; ISO code HM90 APKT 100312PDR. Conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians using the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the insert screw per the toolholder manufacturer's procedure. Always ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Inspect the pocket seating surface and clamp screw for wear or debris before installing a new insert. Do not mix insert grades or geometries within a multi-pocket cutter body, as this can create imbalanced cutting forces.
