The ISCAR 5601196 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ANSI and ISO designation APKT 1003PDTR-76 IC328, designed for use in HELIMILL series face and shoulder milling cutters. The insert features a parallelogram shape with a positive rake geometry and an 11-degree relief angle, delivering efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. A TiCN coating applied via PVD process gives the grade IC328 strong wear resistance and thermal stability. With two cutting edges per insert and a maximum depth of cut of 0.386 inches, this insert handles moderate to aggressive milling passes in demanding applications.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces in production machining environments. The right-hand, single-sided configuration and screw-holding method make it a straightforward drop-in for compatible HELIMILL toolholders. Typical users include CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working on vertical and horizontal machining centers. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style reduces chipping risk when entering and exiting cuts on difficult-to-machine materials such as titanium and nickel-based superalloys.
Designed for use with ISCAR HELIMILL series cutter bodies in the HM90-10 cutter series. Compatible with toolholders accepting APKT 1003 style inserts. Suitable for machining steel (P), stainless steel (M), superalloys, and titanium (S) per ISO material classification codes.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a vise or toolholder fixture before replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not over-tighten, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
