The ISCAR 5600048 is a solid carbide milling insert with the ANSI designation APKT 1003PDR-HM in manufacturer grade IC635. This single-sided, right-hand parallelogram insert is designed for use in face and shoulder milling operations. It features a CVD-applied TiN/TiC/TiN multilayer coating that provides wear resistance and thermal stability during metal removal. The insert carries a positive rake geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, contributing to controlled chip formation and edge integrity. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.3860 inches and a cutting edge effective length of 0.3960 inches, it is suited for moderate to aggressive milling passes on ferrous workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for milling steel and stainless steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material application codes P and M. It is a component of the ISCAR HELIMILL series and is compatible with HM90-10 cutter bodies. Typical installation environments include production machining centers and CNC milling machines engaged in roughing and semi-finishing operations on carbon steel, alloy steel, and austenitic stainless steel. The chip breaker designation is HM, which is optimized for the cutting parameters associated with these material groups. Right-hand cutting geometry defines the required cutter body orientation.
Designed for use with ISCAR HM90-10 series cutter bodies within the HELIMILL platform. Insert size code is 1003 and the ANSI code is APKT 1003PDR-HM IC635.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The cutter body and spindle must be fully stopped and the machine placed in a locked-out state before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer when tightening the insert clamping screw, and do not exceed the recommended clamp torque range for the cutter series. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper contact and runout.
