The ISCAR 5591886 is a TPMT-style triangular turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on stainless steel and steel workpieces. Built from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, the IC9250 grade delivers high wear resistance and thermal stability under continuous and interrupted cutting conditions. The insert measures 11 mm (0.4331 inches) in length with a 1/4 inch inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch (0.0157 inch) corner radius, a 3/32 inch insert thickness, and a maximum depth of cut of 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches). A PF chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation across a range of feed rates. Installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning centers and CNC lathes handling ISO material groups M (stainless steel) and P (carbon and alloy steel). The TPMT geometry features an 11-degree relief angle and a 60-degree included angle, making it appropriate for finishing to medium roughing passes where tight tolerances and surface finish are priorities. The screw-on holding method provides rigid clamping and consistent indexing. The PF chip breaker is optimized for low-to-medium feed rates on difficult-to-machine materials such as austenitic and duplex stainless steels.
Designed for TPMT-compatible insert pockets in Isoturn series toolholders accepting a 1/4 inch inscribed circle, 3/32 inch thick triangular insert with a screw-on holding method and P-clearance, M-tolerance designation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturers specified torque; do not overtighten, as this can crack the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper seating and tool life.
