The ISCAR 5567124 is a square indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable twist drills requiring SOMT-style inserts. Manufactured from fine-grain solid carbide and coated via a PVD process with the IC808 grade, this insert is engineered for consistent cutting performance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 0.5 inches (12.70 mm) inscribed circle, 0.187 inches thick, and carries a 0.031-inch (0.79 mm) corner radius. It belongs to the DR-TWIST series and meets ISO 13399 standards. Installation and replacement are handled by machinists and tool-crib technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in general-purpose and production machining applications where a universal material grade is required. The IC808 PVD-coated fine-grain carbide grade is rated for use on a broad workpiece material range, including ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened materials, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The HD chipbreaker geometry is designed to promote controlled chip formation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. It fits indexable drill bodies within the DR-TWIST series platform that accept SOMT 120408 insert size.
Designed for use in ISCAR DR-TWIST series indexable drill bodies that accept SOMT 120408 square inserts with a 12.70 mm inscribed circle. Compatible workpiece material groups include ISO H, K, M, P, and S.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle locked and machine fully de-energized or in a safe stop state. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to achieve proper clamping torque — do not over-torque the insert screw, as this can damage the insert pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's setup sheet for proper insert orientation and seating confirmation before resuming cutting operations.
