The ISCAR 5566989 is a DCMT-style carbide turning insert engineered for finishing operations on stainless steel and other ISO M-group workpiece materials. Manufactured under the Isoturn series, it features a CVD-applied TiCN/Al2O3/TiN multilayer coating that delivers high wear resistance while maintaining toughness across demanding cuts. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a sharp cutting geometry with a positive rake and positive side clearance. Key dimensions include a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.031-inch corner radius, and an insert thickness of 0.156 inches. A screw-in holding method ensures rigid clamping during light finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible DCMT toolholders for precision turning work.
This insert is suited for finishing passes on stainless steel components in both production machining and job-shop environments. The PF chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation at finishing depths, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.118 inches (3.00 mm). Its IC6025 grade targets ISO M materials where a balance of wear resistance and edge toughness is required. Typical applications include external turning of austenitic and martensitic stainless steel on CNC lathes and manual engine lathes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque driver for the screw-in clamping system — refer to the toolholder manufacturer's specification for fastener torque. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and repeatability.
