The ISCAR 5566944 is a DCMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries an IC6025 manufacturer grade with a multilayer MTCVD-applied TiCN/Al2O3/TiN coating for wear resistance and heat management during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a right-hand cutting orientation, a positive rake geometry, and an SM chip breaker for controlled chip evacuation. With an inscribed circle of 9.52 mm (0.375 inches), an insert length of 11.60 mm (0.457 inches), and a thickness of 3.97 mm (0.156 inches), it fits standard DCMT toolholders across the Isoturn series. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning operations where the primary workpiece material classification is ISO material group M, which covers stainless steels and similar austenitic alloys. The SM chip breaker geometry handles light to medium depth-of-cut passes, with a maximum depth of cut rated at 2.50 mm (0.098 inches). The 0.20 mm (0.008 inch) corner radius makes it appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes where surface quality and dimensional control are critical. It is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series and conforms to ISO 13399 insert identification standards.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard DCMT toolholders within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Insert size code 3-0 and ISO code DCMT 3-0-SM apply when selecting a compatible toolholder.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination causes premature edge failure. Dispose of worn carbide inserts in accordance with local regulations for industrial cutting tool waste.
