The ISCAR 5566753 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert from the Isoturn series, designed for precision single-point turning operations in demanding machining environments. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process using ISCAR's SumoTec proprietary coating technology, this insert carries the IC806 manufacturer grade and targets superalloy and titanium workpiece materials where heat resistance and edge toughness are critical. The diamond-shaped insert features an 80-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch (0.3750-inch) inscribed circle, a 0.008-inch corner radius, and a 7-degree relief angle with a positive rake geometry. The SM chip breaker is optimized for the controlled chip formation demands of difficult-to-machine materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for finish and semi-finish turning, boring, and chamfering operations on superalloys and titanium components in both production and job-shop environments. The positive rake geometry and PVD TiAlN coating help maintain cutting edge integrity at elevated temperatures typical of aerospace and high-performance alloy turning. The SM chip breaker designation targets controlled chip management in materials with low thermal conductivity. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.098 inches (2.49 mm), this insert is best applied in light-to-moderate cutting passes where edge life and surface finish are priorities. It is a single-end, screw-held insert conforming to ISO 13399 standards.
Designed for use with CCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Primary workpiece materials are superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). Suitable for boring and chamfering operations in addition to external turning.
Installation of this insert requires a compatible CCMT screw-clamp toolholder; ensure the seating pocket and clamp screw are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before performing any insert change. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to secure the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Verify insert seating and runout before resuming cutting, especially in tight-tolerance turning applications.
