The ISCAR 5566737 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG 331-M3M geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under ISCAR's proprietary SumoTec coating designation. It belongs to the Isoturn series and is designed for single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features an 80-degree trigon (W) shape with a neutral (N) clearance angle and M tolerance class. The M3M chip breaker geometry supports stable chip control across a range of feed rates. With a submicron carbide grade and IC806 manufacturer grade, this insert is built for demanding cutting conditions, particularly in high-temperature alloy applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users.
This insert is engineered for turning superalloys and titanium alloys, material codes classified as S-grade workpiece materials. These materials are common in aerospace, medical, and energy-sector component machining where tool life and edge integrity under heat and pressure are critical. The double-ended design provides two usable cutting edges per insert, extending value in high-volume production runs. It is held in the toolholder via clamp and pin mounting methods, compatible with standard WNMG-style toolholders.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use insert for WNMG 331-style toolholders that accept clamp-and-pin insert holding. Compatible with applications involving superalloy and titanium workpiece materials as noted in the product specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications when securing the clamping screw — do not over-torque. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and edge alignment.
