The ISCAR 5560078 is an IDSN-style shim designed for indexable toolholders used in grooving and turning operations. This shim seats between the toolholder pocket and the cutting insert, maintaining precise insert positioning and protecting the holder pocket from wear and impact. It is compatible with diamond-shaped inserts and features a negative rake geometry. Cutting direction supports both left-hand and right-hand operation. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, making it suited for mid-range grooving and turning holder configurations. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with MDJN-series toolholders will find this shim a direct-fit component for maintaining toolholder integrity.
This shim is intended for use in metal-cutting environments where indexable grooving and turning operations are performed. It fits MDJN R/L series toolholders and is appropriate for both production turning and toolroom setups. Applications include external grooving and turning on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The negative rake geometry suits tooling configurations where insert stability and edge strength are prioritized over chip clearance. This part is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 2 units.
Compatible with the following toolholders as specified by the manufacturer: MDJNL 16-4, MDJNR 12-4, and MDJNR 16-4. Designed for use with diamond-shaped indexable inserts in MDJN R/L series toolholder styles.
Installation is performed by toolroom technicians or machinists during insert indexing or toolholder maintenance. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is removed from the turret before replacing or inspecting shims. Seat the shim flat in the holder pocket and confirm there is no debris or damage to the seating surface before torquing the insert clamp. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw, as these are not provided with this shim.
