The ISCAR 5550546 is a WNMG433TF IC8250 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for precision single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features a trigon (80-degree included angle) insert shape with a positive rake geometry and a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. The IC8250 grade coating system provides wear resistance and thermal stability suited to continuous and interrupted cuts. At 8.7 mm in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 3/64-inch corner radius, this insert is sized for medium finishing and semi-finishing passes. It is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered for turning stainless steel and carbon or alloy steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups M and P. It fits the ISCAR Isoturn series toolholding system and is compatible with clamp and pin holding methods. The TF chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation during medium-depth passes, reducing built-up edge and improving surface finish on difficult-to-machine alloys. Maximum depth of cut is 4.50 mm (0.1772 inches), making it well suited to finishing and light semi-finishing applications where dimensional accuracy and surface quality are critical.
Designed for use in ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders accepting WNMG-style inserts with clamp and pin holding. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel (ISO group M) and carbon or alloy steel (ISO group P).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's seating procedure when clamping the insert. Inspect the pocket seat and shim for debris or damage before seating a new insert, as a contaminated pocket will affect edge geometry and part tolerance. Dispose of used carbide inserts per applicable shop and local regulations for carbide tooling waste.
